Monica is the Member of the Month for March! Monica was one of our first new members when we transitioned from our at-home zoom classes to right outside the gym. From her very first class, she has worked hard and was welcoming of feedback. Now she comes into 3:30 pm every weekday and continuesto push herself to be a better and healthier person.
Monica is someone that always comes to class with a positivity that infects the people that she is around. I have never seen Monica in a bad mood and it is always refreshing to have someone that is consistently happy. One thing that we know for sure about Monica is that she dislikes running, but even though that is the case she still shows up and does all of the runs. She has made amazing progress through the time that we have had her at the gym and she deserves the credit for being consistent and hardworking the whole time.
If you ever get the pleasure of catching Monica in a class, say hey and if you love baking, the both of you will already have a great topic to talk about. Thank you Monica for being such a great member and welcome to the MOTM club! :)
When did you join Croga?
What were you doing before for fitness?
Absolutely nothing! Well, a little bit of Zumba, but I don’t think that really counted…I was
What was your first workout? First reaction to your first workout?
I would have to count the intro classes with Cody as my first workouts.
First reaction: OVERWHELMING, a lot of info to retain and new movements to learn that I’d never heard of. I could barely walk even after those first few classes.
What improvements have you seen in the way you look, feel and perform?
The last year and couple of months of doing Crossfit with Croga has done so much for me. It really has changed me. I feel so much better than I used to, I have more confidence in my abilities despite my self-loathing jokes. All aspects - mind, body and soul have improved substantially since staying on this journey.
What days and times do you come to Croga?
4-5 times a week M-F @ 3:30 pm
What's your favorite WOD?
I like the ones with cleans, rowing, bench presses, hard to nail down just one WOD…a lot of them are great.
What's your least favorite WOD?
Anything with RUNNING or Snatches or the ones with excessive burpees…BOO!
"The Monica" WOD! What would it be?
Hmmm…taking a nap?? That would be a great WOD! You know, I have no clue. Something fun that doesn’t have running it for sure. I am shocked that I don’t have a better answer. What’s wrong with me?
What’s your favorite post-workout routine?
Going home and eating dinner. I’m starving after I leave.
What's been your favorite culinary discovery since joining Croga?
I’ve discovered that food tastes A LOT better after a workout. I enjoy baking, so my favorite culinary discovery is that I am actually pretty good at creating new desserts…that’s super healthy yes?
What's your biggest fitness goal for this year?
Biggest fitness goal this year would be to actually do a pull-up on my own. Somehow this movement doesn’t like me one bit!
What do you love about this type of fitness?
I like that it pushes you further than you think you can go. It works out every part of your body and I’m never bored. It’s always fun, even if my face shows otherwise afterward. I like that I’m always learning and striving to improve to better myself. I can’t believe I didn’t start doing this sooner in life.
What words of advice do you have for new members or people considering joining Croga?
I would say: It’s a journey that you will absolutely love and you will get so much out of it. Don’t give up, even if it seems hard. The coaches and members will always support you.
Anything to add that we didn't touch on yet?
Just thank you so much for having me as part of the Croga family, it’s been such a joy. Coach Ari and Coach Cody have been instrumental in getting me to where I am today which is a far cry from where I began. They push me, they make sure to correct me when I need it, they cheer me on, they are the best!
